Donald King named pastor of Hope Lutheran Church
Cleveland-The Rev. Donald King has recently accepted the call to serve as pastor of Hope Lutheran Church, in Cleveland Heights. He returns to his hometown of Cleveland after serving three years as chaplain of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa.; one of the 28 colleges affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Don grew up in North Royalton, Ohio, graduating from the local high school in 1970. He is a graduate of Ashland College and the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, and has served as a pastor of the ELCA since his ordination in 1978.
After serving parishes in suburban Detroit and inner city St. Louis, he returned to his hometown of Cleveland in 1985 to serve as campus pastor to Cleveland State University and other area colleges.
In his eleven years of ministry in Cleveland, Don was active in the community through the North Coast Men's Chorus, AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland, and the local chapter of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.
Hope Lutheran is the congregation that reached out to and hosts Lutherans Concerned of Cleveland, the lesbian-gay outreach of the Lutheran church. Currently, Lutherans Concerned meets every fourth Friday of the month at 7 p.m. in the church. Hope's Sunday worship schedule includes gathering every Sunday morning at 8:15 and 10:00 around word and sacrament.
